We planned our days accordingly - rented the Jeep & drove the island to stay out of town on that day or went to a private beach for the day. We did get a good grasp that when the ships came in shopping prices went up accordingly (I'm thinking it was Mondays & Thursdays). We have a favorite restaurant in Cozumel - Pepe's Grill.

Mmm, those sound like a couple of lovely trips! I, too, heard the snorkeling off of Cozumel was where it was at. Did the cruise ship people totally inundate the island, though? Make it crowded?

My husband and I love Mexico! In August 2005, we spent a week at The Mayan Palace, Nuevo Vallarta. The huge pool is amazing and the food delicious!
The following week we stayed at El Cid La Ceiba, Cozumel. Some of the best snorkeling is just off the beach. Since it is the main cruise ship dock, we enjoyed watching the ships coming in with our morning coffee & go out after dark.
In November 2008, we spent a week at The Grand Mayan, Riviera Maya. It's simply a gorgeous place, the restaurants are fabulous and we really enjoyed the cabanas and the bar in the pool. We would love to go back soon!
