We love the Olympics in our house! TV watching as we know it is temporarily suspended as we celebrate the triumphs, and weep over the tragic losses, with athletes around the world.
Seeing this succession of posters brings back memories of the first winter games that I can recall—Innsbruck. Some are extremely memorable and others completely forgettable. I suppose the hosting city/country may have something to do with it. The romance of Innsbruck. The exotic surprise of Nagano. Places that sound fabulous like St. Moritz…
Thanks to the folks at NBC for inspiring us with this.
First Aid for Travelers
Staying Well on the RoadCompiled by Lisa T. Bergren
First aid kits can vary widely. We’ve traveled with bare essentials like a few Band-Aids and Tylenol and Advil, and with full kits. One of our friends consulted a local street-side pharmacy in Italy when she had some sort of eye infection, and they gave her anti-biotic eye drops across the counter. They burned—but they cleared up her issue! From what we hear, this is pretty common in some countries—pharmacists who not only diagnose, but deliver too. Continue reading
Entertainment En Route
Passing the Time with Kids on the RoadBy Lisa T. Bergren
• Do NOT pre-board with your young children. Send one adult ahead to settle all the stuff in and leave the other adult to keep them running until closer to take-off time. Don’t wander too far, however! Continue reading
General Packing Tips
Taking the "Lug" out of Luggage...By Lisa T. Bergren
General Tips
• Invest in the plastic airless envelopes that you pack, roll, and squeeze out the air. You’ll get twice as much in.
• Leave 1/3 of your suitcase space for the return home. Between treasures and expanding clothes, you’re bound to need the room and/or pack a smaller duffel bag inside the larger bag.
• Pack laundry detergent in small baggies. Many countries use front loading washers, which do best with low-suds detergent. You can also use this for sink washing. Continue reading

***CRESTED BUTTE, COLORADO***
Amber is the funny, outdoorsy, ski-lovin’, transplanted Canadian who lives here in Colorado now with her hubby and two young kids. Her favorite stop of 2009 was Crested Butte, and after a visit to her blog to read about it, I can see why. The playgrounds, music festival, kids’ camp…This definitely has to be on the Bergrens’ own Tour de Colorado for 2010. Continue reading

10 Reasons to Travel with Kids
By Lisa T. Bergren
Com’on people! If you were brave enough to HAVE kids, you can certainly get on a plane or in a car for a road trip with them. Here are the top 10 reasons we hear that parents would rather leave the kids at home (and therefore, why most stay home too):
1) We’ve never been there before.
TheWorldIsCallingSays: So go—and figure it out together! It’s incredibly fun (and a bonding experience) to share the wonder of discovery. Continue reading

Compassion Knows No BoundariesPhoto credit: www.nerdseyeview.com

I admit to passing by beggars around the world, giving here and there, but what always gets me are kids, begging, looking hungry, dirty, needing to be in school. As I trudge by, often with my own children in tow, I wonder where their mothers are, what their life is really like on the street. Are they sex slaves? Handing over P&B money (or their local alternative) to some master that rules their lives? What I long to do is see these kids in school. If they’re in school, they have hope, a future. Potential…about to be realized. It’s why we support a Compassion International kiddo, born on the same day as my Middlest. And it’s why we @TheWorldCalls is supporting this Passports for Purpose project. Continue reading
