Last Fall, we drove up to Breckenridge to take part in their annual Oktoberfest, which oddly, happens in mid-September. But it was fine with us. Continue reading

3 Weekend Getaways in Glenwood
Glenwood Springs, ColoradoBy Lisa T. Bergren
Is your family going on vacation to Glenwood Springs? Or just looking for a weekend break? We loved our Glenwood Springs getaway so much, despite a ho-hum hot springs pool experience, we’re eager to return. Here are a few ideas on how we’d spend our time, or what we’d recommend to our friends: Continue reading

The World's Largest Hot Springs PoolBy Lisa T. Bergren
After our spectacularly successful day at the Glenwood Caverns & Adventure Park, we were excited to devote the late morning and early afternoon to nothing but the pool, before hitting the road for our four hour return trip home. Our Saturday evening dip was ho-hum, but the kids were excited to try out the waterslides (open 12-5). I wanted to know more about what the Ute Indians called the “Yampah” springs, or “Big Medicine.” Continue reading

Ski or Curl Up with a Good Book? Hmmm…
A Mom’s Meditation on the SportBy Lisa T. Bergren
I open one eye to glance at the clock, catch a glimpse of blue sky and stifle a groan. No excuses. I shut my eye, shoring up for what’s ahead. I should be happy for this day, grateful. A million other mamas would gladly be in my shoes, ensconced in a ski condo along the slopes of a Colorado resort. But frankly, I’d rather pull the covers over my head, sleep another hour, then settle into the comfy living room chair with a cup of java and a good book. Continue reading

Great Sand Dunes National Park
Unexpected Oasis of Family Fun!By Lisa T. Bergren (with thanks to Kim Hedstrom)
If you’re in northern New Mexico or Southern Colorado, be sure to trek over to the amazing Great Sand Dunes National Park. This is really an awe-inspiring sight–with peaks of sand reaching as high as 750′ right below alpine Sangre de Cristo mountains. They’re the tallest dunes in North America and were formed over the centuries from the geological forces of an ancient, receding lake bed and opposing winds. Continue reading
